Things That Are Done

I am done with…

Raking leaves.

With my husband out of action due to his Fractured Fibula, we are one Leaf Mover down in our household.  Getting these leaves up to the street took threatening to ground one 13-year-old girl if she didn’t rake, cajoling of one overly busy 17-year-old boy to mow the lawn, and no small effort on my part (and not just threatening and cajoling).

This is a new and different pile since I last wrote about the
fascinating topic of leaves two weeks ago.

And then the leaf truck came (again) this week!  Oh, frabjous day!  And there was much rejoicing.
For those readers unfamiliar with this miraculous phenomenon, here is the Leaf Truck.

The leaf-sucking nozzle thingy.  The truck had
to make two passes to suck up all our leaves.

I now declare that the Common Household Lawn is clear of leaves, statistically speaking.  There is no significant difference between the number of leaves on the lawn, and zero leaves on the lawn (p < 0.10).
Never was there so much joy in retaining the null hypothesis!
A photo from one week ago.  There are a few more
leaves on the lawn now.  I just raised p to 0.25.

That means I can turn my attention to other important matters.  Some other things I am done with are:

Baking Apple Raisin Pie.
Safely stored in freezer until Thanksgiving Day.

Remembering to take the turkey out of the freezer.  Some years I order a fresh turkey, which I prefer, but doing so requires some faith that the grocery store won’t screw up my order and make me be turkey-less. This year I went with cheap and easy, because I have too much else to think about.

Buying ingredients for green bean casserole.
But I might have to buy more fresh Brussels sprouts – will 40 be enough for the 8 people who eat these?  If I cook them in bacon grease will it increase demand?

Sewing the Eagle badge onto my son’s uniform.  It’s been 7 weeks since he got the badge, so it was about time.  While I was sewing, I wondered who sews on General Petraeus’s badges?  Oops, I guess that should be in past tense.

One thing I am not done with is giving thanks.  I have a lot to be thankful for.

So, dear reader, is there anything you can cross off your list?  Anything that is Done?

Emma's birthday party is done, and that is always a great relief. Also, we are joining a friend for a low-key Thanksgiving dinner, which means no traveling, only a small amount of cooking, and lots of time to get caught up on other things. I'm very grateful for that.

I am also grateful I don't have to eat an apple pie with yucky raisins in it :-) What were you thinking?!

I agree; why raisins?

I see a visceral reaction to raisins! Normally I don't put them in, but my husband likes apple pie with raisins, and since he is suffering with his broken leg, I put them in out of compassion for him.

I am done with nothing. We're traveling for thanksgiving, which means I can't even buy the ingredients I need until we arrive at our destination on Wednesday. Hopefully after today I will be done with laundry, and by tomorrow morning I will be done with packing.

Why do I always panic when getting ready to travel?

And why am I on the internet when I should be doing all of the aformentioned?

*aforementioned*

AND why doesn't Blogger let us edit comments?

Hung the lights outside yesterday. And composted the pumpkins. We go to D's family's in Iowa for Thanksgiving and I'm not a fan of hanging holiday lights in cold weather so I took advantage.

I need to bake a fruit pie to bring and buy some cheese.

I had to host Bunko tonight, which made for a hellish (HELLISH) day of making the house presentable for 11 guests. But now? I look around and see that I am set for Thanksgiving, housecleaning-wise. Awesome!
