Here are just a few of the gingerbread houses we saw on display downtown. I appreciate the creativity and the tenacity of the people who put together these things.
Towering above all these gingerbread houses is a giant Christmas tree, with completely creepy disembodied Santa faces glaring out at us.
These Santa Faces belong in a Doctor Who episode. I am sorry if you find yourself too creeped out to sleep tonight.
Santa's Kitchen. I think this one is my favorite. I just love all the details. |
Despicable Tree, with Minions |
A pretzely log cabin sort of gingerbread house |
I have tried to figure out what makes this a "Pittsburgh" nativity scene. I mean, the Baby Jesus is not wrapped in a Terrible Towel. Is that Wise Man (in blue) carrying a football? |
Troop ship coming home. Very poignant. |
Santa's Stable |
Santa Spa Day - note that a snowman has gotten into the hot tub. |
"Holiday for our Heroes" |
"Created by the Strange Society of Teenage Girls" |
"Reindeer Games" The spectators are all gummy bears. |
Dia de los Muertos, in gingerbread. Wow! |
"A Pueblo Christmas" |
The Duck at Point State Park |
"Snoopy's Chamber Strings" |
These Santa Faces belong in a Doctor Who episode. I am sorry if you find yourself too creeped out to sleep tonight.

Lots of talent in that collection! I especially love the Santa Spa Day. Although at first I thought the hot tub was just Santa :-)
It's like the Face of Boe! You're right!
Some clever, creative people out there--I like the sound of that Teenage Girl Society. And any miniature thing charms me.
Thank you for sharing the cute and clever gingerbread!
Those are awesome! I think Santa's kitchen is my favorite too.
Those are amazing! I wouldn't get past eating the cookie dough, I know, I know.
Santa's kitchen might be my favorite, too, although Reindeer Games is a clever idea.
Those Santas remind me of this elaborate Christmas cross-stitch my mom worked on for years which, when she finally unveiled it, my sisters and I named "Psycho Santa" because he had PTSD eyes. She was so mad at first, but now it's a big family joke.
I love things like this! I hope my daughter is healthy tomorrow so she can go see our local version of these. I think the Strange Society of Teenage Girls is an excellent name for a group of girls who want to get together and do things that others might perceive as out of the ordinary for kids that age. They warmed my heart somehow...
Wow! Loved seeing these (the Pueblo might be my favorite) and now I feel badly for never going to see the gingerbread houses on display downtown here, along with the trees.
