Creepy Crawlies

I was calmly working at my desk yesterday, when this creature appeared right in front of me.
The mess on my desk is actually more startling than the spider.

I screamed and leapt up, not because I am scared of spiders, but only because I was startled.  I decided that the spider showed up in order to encourage me to clean up my desk.  But first, I ran to get the camera, so I could share this photo with you, before I buckled down to tidy the desk.  I was so excited that I forgot to use the flash, so the photo is a little blurry.  Then I discovered, glory be, that it was time for lunch.

After lunch I came back and Spidey was gone.  So was my motivation to clean my desk.

This was the second spider’s life that I spared this past week.  I also found a spider when I was cleaning the bathroom (sorry, no photo).  I left the spider alone in the hopes that s/he will keep the creepy bugs away from me.  Those bugs with a thousand legs and antennae are harmless, but they creep me out far more than spiders.

All these spiders seem appropriate, given the approach of Halloween.  Have you seen anything creepy but harmless lately?

Lots of spiders in my house, too. I usually gently relocate them outside.

YES. Something that looked an awful lot like this:

I panicked and stomped it before I could take a picture.

Angie, your calmness is admirable. I am imagining the spiders down there are as large as cats.

Alison: yikes! That is a scary-looking one! I would stomp on that one.

House spiders don't bother me. The centipedes, though, I could do without.

We get a lot of daddy-long-legs and cellar spiders, and they don't bother me. But the ones that have thicker, hairy bodies --I have to attack them quickly with a kleenex, and not think too much about it.

We're in the midst of the annual asian lady beetle and boxelder bug invasion, and the guy is coming to spray the house on Saturday :-)

Well, the upstairs bathroom is ALWAYS creepy to me! Way to not squash that right away!

Centipedes are the worst! I use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the creepy crawlers here.
