If You Give a Scout a Shovel

If you give a Scout a shovel,

He’s going to want to dig a hole.

When he starts to dig the hole,
He’ll come upon a huge rock.

He’ll see that removing the rock will require a pickaxe.

As he wields the pickaxe he’ll injure his wrist.
So he’ll ask for an ace bandage.

The Scout in charge of the project will send him up the hill to the first-aid box.

Just as he finishes putting on the ace bandage, the pizza will arrive.

After 6 slices of pizza he’ll look for his water bottle.
As he drinks he’ll think of how proud his Scoutmaster would be that he remembered to bring his water bottle.

Suddenly he’ll realize that it’s time to finish digging his hole.

When he returns to the trail to dig, he’ll find that another Scout has finished digging and has put the 6-inch pipe in the hole.

So he’ll want to spread some pea gravel and dirt over the pipe.

He’ll need a tool for moving the gravel and dirt.

So, he’ll ask for a shovel.

The End

Oh my goodness! That looks like a lot of pizza --how many scouts did you employ?!

36 people (mostly scouts, some friends & groupies). There were either 8 or 10 pizzas. I lost count. Plus 3 dozen doughnuts at the beginning of the morning.

Whew! That's a lot of work--but what great sense of accomplishment you must feel now.
